You should however also visit the web site of The National Office for Summative Assessment [NOSA.org.uk] to familiarize yourself with the SA process.

Passing Summative Assessment is mandatory by law for a GP registrar to become a certificated GP. Summative Assessment is a test of minimal competence in the wide range of knowledge, skills and attitudes required for an independent practitioner in general medical practice.

Very occasionally, failures in Summative Assessment occur. If this happens the Deanery implements a protocol that can involve an offer to extend training.
