If you are a registrar taking up a place on an Oxford Deanery VTS scheme, you will receive a paper Summative Assessment (SA) pack from the SA administrator at the Deanery - Cara Evans This will include your Summative Assessment number.
The four components of Summative Assessment, all of which must be passed, are:
As soon as you have chosen which elements you wish to submit, complete a Summative Assessment Application Form (Word document), Return to Cara Evans no later than:
- 1 Jan 07 - if completing GP training Jun-Aug 07
- 1 Aug 07 - if completing GP training Dec 07-Feb 08

Passing Summative Assessment is mandatory by law for a GP registrar to become a certificated GP. Summative Assessment is a test of minimal competence in the wide range of knowledge, skills and attitudes required for an independent practitioner in general medical practice.
Very occasionally, failures in Summative Assessment occur. If this happens the Deanery implements a protocol that can involve an offer to extend training.
