Maternity and paternity leave for GP registrars
Maternity leave
Following discussions with NHS Employers, it has been agreed that the GP Registrar (Amendment) Directions 2005 will be updated to bring maternity provision for GP Registrars into line with Hospital Terms and Conditions of Service - details below.
Where an employee intends to return to work the amount of contractual maternity pay receivable is as follows:
for the first 8 weeks of absence, the employee will receive full pay, less any Statutory Maternity Pay or Maternity Allowance (including any dependants allowances) receivable;
for the next 18 weeks the employee will receive half of full pay less any Statutory Maternity Pay or Maternity Allowance (including any dependants allowances) receivable, providing the total receivable does not exceed full pay;
Check out the Department of Health web site for further details of maternity leave, and speak to your practice manager.
Paternity leave
Registrars are entitled to two weeks paternity leave at full pay for each birth or adoption. You need to have 12 months' NHS service to be elegible and must submit form SC3 28 days before the leave is due to start.
